Orders & Delivery: What size will my photos and posters be?
The actual size of your photos is influenced by following factors:
- Standard paper formats
- Aspect ratio of your file
- Manufacturing tolerance
Standard paper formats:
Ever since the beginning of analogue amateur photography, the size of photo paper is indicated in inches. One inch is about 2,54 cm.
The standard photo formats used in Germany are recalculated to cm and rounded up to a full centimetre. This created differences between the mentioned and the actual paper format.

Aspect ratio of your file:
In analogue photography the format 24x36mm with an aspect ratio of 3:2 was used the most. During exposure the known photo formats such as 9x13cm (5"x3.5") or 10x15cm (6"x4") were created.
With digital photography these fixed aspect ratios are no longer binding. Firstly, most digital cameras use an aspect ratio of 4:3, secondly photo processing programs offer the option to select and save parts of the photo in any ratio.
Pixum was one of the first providers to work with the exposure according to the aspect ratio. This means that your photo is exposed so that it leaves no white borders and you don't loose any parts of your photo.
Depending on the aspect ratio of your photo we will cut the length of the paper to the size of your file for photos from 9cm (5"x3.5") format up to 30cm format. In case you want your photos for frames or photo albums with the classic formats, we advise you to change the aspect ratio of your photo to 3:2. With some cameras you can set this in the menu options. Alternatively you can also do this with photo processing programs.
Please always note the maximum size of our photo formats!
With 40cm and 50cm posters the paper doesn't come off the roll, but as a paper sheet and this is not cut. Therefore the only possible aspect ratio is 3:2. Your posters are therefore 40*60cm or 50*75cm. If your file has a different aspect ratio, the photo is cut to fit, so that you do not get any white borders. This means that with varying aspect ratios part of your image is lost.

Manufacturing tolerance:
Due to production issues manufacturing tolerances can occur during exposure and cutting. These cannot be avoided completely and should be considered when choosing a format. We advise you not to create any borders or to place text near the border, since these might be cut off.
